About this course:
A well established contemporary plein air painter in Canada and the USA, Marc Grandbois offers his vision of personal expression through the beauty of nature. This class focuses on how to paint en plein air and how to work on the spot. Every student is led to better transpose their emotions related to place and time, into an image and to understand the subjective power of colours and gesture in painting.
Marc will give a two hour demonstration each morning en plein air in the Clos Mirabel park and surrounds. A large interior space will be available in case of bad weather. This session is devoted to observation and commentary throughout the demonstration. Final session timing: there will be a group critique on the last 90-120 minutes of the last day. This allows for individual experience of the week to be shared by the group, creating both a supportive and exponential effect for future work.

Monday Plein air in the mountains
8.30 – 9.30 Buffet breakfast of local and regional produce
10.00 – 12.00 Demo en plein air or in studio in case of bad weather. Focus on composition, dealing with light and the changing light of nature.
12.00 – 1.00 Lunch on site
1.00 – 4.00 Plein air work or studio work with individual tuition throughout the day

Tuesday

Friday

10.00 – 1.00 Free day of painting at Clos Mirabel, with individual tuition. Working either en plein air or from sketches/photograph.

Clos Mirabel est un magnifique domaine de quinze acres situé entre la Côte Basque et les Pyrénées. Son manoir du 18ème siècle sis dans un parc privé surplombe les douces collines du Jurançon, offrant des vues magnifiques et ininterrompues sur les vignobles jusqu’à la chaîne entière des Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Un havre de paix où la lumière sans cesse changeante appelle à la tranquillité. L’endroit parfait pour des retraites artistiques.

À propos du cours :
Rejoignez Marc Grandbois à l’Atelier Clos Mirabel pour une semaine de peinture en plein air. Évoluant entre les aspects techniques et la philosophie esthétique, les étudiants apprendront à canaliser leurs émotions liées au lieu et au moment et comment transférer cela dans leur œuvre.
Chaque matin, Marc offre une démonstration sur le motif dans différents lieux choisis. Les participants sont par la suite invités à peindre à leur tour en plein air ou en atelier dans les jardins de Clos Mirabel sous supervision individuelle. Cette approche permet un enseignement adapté au niveau et besoins de chacun. Une critique de groupe est prévue le dernier jour afin de permettre un partage du travail réalisé en lien avec l’expérience globale de l’atelier.
À propos de l’artiste :
Marc Grandbois est un peintre de plein air bien établi au Québec. Basé dans la région du Saguenay, Marc est directement motivé par la beauté naturelle de son environnement ; lacs, le Fjord, le fleuve Saint-Laurent et la riche forêt boréale environnante. Les œuvres distinctives de Marc se retrouvent en galeries au Canada ainsi que dans plusieurs collections publiques et privées. Il enseigne et participe à des événements et expositions de peinture au Québec, au Canada et aux États-Unis depuis 35 ans.
Tarifs :
Hébergement en pension complète de 1595 € à 2695 € par personne, par semaine, selon le choix de la chambre et l’occupation simple ou partagée.
