I create work in response to a place and the ephemera from that place. The work evolves through documenting, recording, collecting and sharing the stories discovered through these processes. I am always drawn to techniques that have some element of surprise in the outcome. Paper making, natural dye and ink making, drawing, cyanotype and creating book structures are amalgamated together to produce small and perfectly formed keepsakes that echo the essence of that place.
My ethos dictates that it is important to waste nothing, that everything has a purpose and an inherent beauty to be examined, explored, elevated and a new purpose discovered. The resulting alchemic objects are to be celebrated, shared and treasured. I have over thirty years of experience as a visual artist through teaching, making and curating. My primary aim is to encourage everyone to find creativity within themselves. I use guided play to enable that discovery to organically unfold.
