Róisín Curé is from the mountains of Co. Wicklow on Ireland’s East Coast near Dublin. For the last few decades she has lived in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. She has taught location sketching across Europe since 2015, always in ink and watercolour, both privately and as an invited tutor, including at USk Symposia in 2018 and 2019, Compostela Ilustrada in Spain in 2019 and 2021, USk Switzerland Symposium in Bern in 2021, at Clermont Dessine in 2022 and in Artform, Co.Waterford in Ireland in 2023.

Róisín is the author of four books on sketching the world around you: An Urban Sketcher’s Galway (Currach Press, 2019, 2nd edition Red Stripe Press, 2024, under the title Galway In Sketches And Stories); The Urban Sketching Handbook: Drawing Expressive People (Quarto, 2020, 2nd edition 2022, Spanish edition 2023); Dublin In Sketches And Stories (Merrion Press, 2021, 2nd edition 2024).

She hosted the podcast Sketch Therapist from 2022-2023 and it can be found on Spotify. The pandemic brought her classes online and Róisín taught twice-weekly live classes to a thriving community of sketchers across the globe from May 2020 to May 2024, when she decided to concentrate on teaching a wider audience through YouTube. Róisín is a sewer and in 2024 she designed and launched the SketchPocket, a specialty bag filled with all Róisín’s favourite sketching tools. Its aim is to accommodate passionate sketchers who like to sketch wherever they are, sitting or standing, from a cramped plane or parked car to a sandy beach or mountain summit. Róisín has a Master’s degree in Geology, and is fluent in four languages.

Testimonials:

Róisín Curé is an amazing teacher! Her sketch-along sessions have taught me so much about drawing and painting. Róisín makes every lesson fun and so interesting, with a wonderful, personal connection. You learn by doing everything along with her; the best way to learn! — Eileen, USA

Róisín Curé, a great sketcher and teacher. She has helped me learn to translate everyday scenes into my sketchbook and shares her methods generously with her pupils. — Gráinne, Ireland

I have followed along with Róisín's classes for nearly a year now. I absolutely love her work, it's fun, lively and full of colour. Róisín's teaching style is unique,I've learnt so much since I started to follow along. Róisín breaks learning down so it's easy to follow her . I'm so happy that my sketching and painting skills have improved week on week. I think anyone no matter what age will definitely enjoy learning under Róisín's excellent tuition. — Elaine, UK

I'm following a few sketchers on YouTube including you!But what I mostly like about you is the colours you use, each colour goes very well together.I also like the size of the drawing not too big (which helps anybody who like me is able to draw but if it is too big I would give up).In fact I, for the first time in my life, draw almost every day! — Nicole, France

Róisín is a wonderful teacher. I don't know how, but she lets me draw things I never thought I could. Suddenly with every step it comes to life on the paper. Róisín is 100% real: a keen sense of place and story coupled with her directness and humour. — Annett, Germany

Róisín is a highly talented artist, teacher and raconteur. I credit Róisín with teaching me both to draw and paint, with all the tiny details which make your sketches come to life. Róisín is generous, warm and funny to learn from, so if you are considering a course with her, just do it, you won't regret it. — Gina, UK

I love your classes for several reasons. First is, you got me into a weekly sketching routine, which inspired me to do even more sketchings and sketching appointments in my area on top of that. Secondly, your classes are real learning experiences and have a subject and a topic (reflections, light and shadow, people….)you show technics to approve difficult structures. It‘s a step by step concept which leads to an immediate success and I can use the technics later in my own sketches. Thank you so much! Third: the importance of contrast when using white. And last, but not least the community in your international group is so very supportive! — Meike, Germany
