Testimonies

Of the many wonderful instructors I’ve taken writing courses with Lauren Kate reigns supreme. Her knowledge of craft, genre, and the author’s journey is generously shared and always about her students; never herself. She is flexible and adapts readily both to what she is seeing on our pages and in student discussions. Here comments in workshop are beyond supportive in strengths and weaknesses. Her advice is straightforward, actionable, and speaks clearly to the story each writer says they want to tell. In an era full of cultural and individual sensitivities, she models openness and keeps students focused on the strengths of the storyteller. — J. M.

Lauren Kate is a superb shepherd for creative talents. I recommend and take every course she teaches. Lauren was a wonderful instructor. She provided so much wisdom, taught with insight, and gave everyone supportive and motivating feedback. I can't thank her enough for supporting my writing and helping me as I navigate next steps in my writing. I don't think I would have made the progress I've made without her guidance. — H. W.

Lauren is not only an impressive author, which is a huge benefit to her students, but also an incredible instructor. She is a natural at building a strong team and facilitating growth. She has an enormous heart and a superb critical eye, which when combined as she does, results in the type of feedback that not only increases the writer’s productivity but inspires everyone else too. What a joy working with her and the group energy her teaching style encouraged. Every course has taken me one step closer towards my goals, and Lauren’s course shifted it into high gear. — A. N.

Lauren Kate has very quick mind and a wide breadth of knowledge to share with the any writer, experienced or novice. She is supremely articulate about writing and life, and is extremely attentive to questions and doubts. Her answers and feedback are precise and insightful. She is a kind person and very encouraging. She quickly responded to any concerns or questions, and I thought her craft feedback was among the strongest of any of the profs I've had so far. — S. G.
