Mills illustrated Anne of Green Gables, At the Back of the North Wind and her own authored book, The Rag Coat which won numerous awards, including New York State’s Charlotte Award for Best Picture Book. Illustrations from several of Mills’ books toured the United States in a show called,“Brave Little Girls”, after its first exhibition at the Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. Mills’ work has been included in the Spectrum’s Best of Fantastic Art, and IX Arts of Imaginative Realism. The NY Times described Mills’ watercolours for Tatterhood and the Hobgoblins as “Alluring…to the point of Pre-Raphaelitism” and the Washington Post wrote of her watercolours for The Rag Coat, “exquisite…complex…. and radiant.” Mills has taught illustration in the MFA Illustration Program at the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford, Connecticut and at the Hollins University in Virginia.

Testimony relative to Lauren Mills teaching

As a person who highly values great teaching and stives for excellence when teaching is my role, it iseasy to heartily endorse Lauren Mills for her impressive skills in teaching oil portrait painting. I cannot imagine a more gentle, inclusive, wise and supportive a way to be introduced to the mysterious to me, new medium and subject, than through Lauren. — Walter Cudnohufsky

I've known Lauren for over thirty years, as we are both members of a local illustrator's group—The Western Massachusetts Illustrator's Guild. Lauren is sincere, friendly, easy to work with, and simply a pleasure to know. Her creative vision, talent, interpersonal skills, and personal integrity are qualities that lead me to give her the highest recommendation as an artist, writer, llustrator, sculptor, and art instructor. — Ruth Sanderson
