Artist's Projects
Jarnie Godwin is an award-winning, self-taught artist painting realistic, detailed, and vibrant botanical watercolours. Born in London, she is also a highly respected teacher, has worked in graphic design, and received a formal training in architecture. The work Jarnie focuses on as a botanical artist combines her love of structural forms, vibrancy and detail, with precision and realism at its heart. Her passion for botanical painting lies in vivid colour combined with playful contrast, and capturing beautifully ethereal, but not always perfect flowers at larger than life size. Her work focusing on fragility, decay and the mysteries of the fading bloom invite an intimate, engaging and an almost portrait painter’s view of the subject.
Jarnie exhibits her work internationally, and has been awarded an RHS Silver-Gilt medal for her watercolour paintings. Her work is also found in both private and public collections, including the prestigious Hunt Institute of Botanical Documentation in Pittsburgh. In 2023 her first book, ‘Vibrant Botanical Painting: The life of plants of watercolour’ was published by The Crowood Press, which also contained a dedicated chapter on capturing decay.
