Artist's Projects
A weekend workshop ‘Watercolours Gone Wild’ so inspired Veritas Jo that it created the impetus for a career change from a high-level government official to become a professional artist. Veritas Jo’s skills, knowledge and expertise as a botanical watercolour artist have been further refined over thirty years of diligence in the art. Veritas Jo and her husband Vic are active members of Dunsborough Art Society in Western Australia, where she teaches art. She has also been artist in resident for a number of years in a local art gallery.
Veritas Jo’s eye for detail, willingness to share and impart insights and passion for the art comes through in her teaching philosophy. She sensitively balances traditional watercolour techniques with her desire for innovation and imagination in creating modernistic compositions. Her perceptiveness into plant structure, quiet elegance and character of trailing vines, textural differences and colour mixing is evident in her works.
The authentic and rich detail of Veritas Jo’s artworks with a contemporary feel is achieved through exceptionally fine brush strokes (she uses 000 brushes to create her pieces), knowledge of how each plant grows and flair. Her sought-after works are favoured by tourists and locals; they can be found in private collections in Japan, USA, UK, France, Denmark and across Australia.
